Nirmal two-wheeler mechanic's novel gesture

Correspondent

Nimal, May 14:A two-wheeler mechanic, who operates a gruel kiosk in Nirmal town, offered succour to an elderly cyclist of Punjab. Pakala Ramchander extended financial of Rs 2,000 to Prakash Singh Bhatiya, who was pedalling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari for the cause of country's wellness, here on Sunday.
Ramchander told Telangana Today that he had initially offered a glass of gruel and then donated the funds, helping Bhatiya to meet expenses. "The cyclist did not disclose when he had embarked upon 'All India Cycle Yatra'. But he told me that he was pedalling for the well-being of the country. I was impressed with this attempt, at the age of 80," he informed.
The octogenarian halted at the kiosk for a brief period and took some rest when he was crossing Nirmal town. He accepted the monetary aid and then patted Ramchander for serving the drink. He headed towards Nizamabad.
Minister for Endowments and Housing Allola Indrakaran Reddy inaugurated the gruel kiosk erected by Ramchander on April 12. The gruel made of sorghum grains is served at the kiosk for helping people beat the heat. This simple gesture is bringing respite to not only the general public but the poor, passengers, patients of various hospitals and elderly.
As many as 5,000 persons are taking the drink every day. Ramchander deployed six workers for serving the gruel and spending Rs 6 lakh for purchasing grains and ingredients required in order to prepare the drink. He has been running the kiosk since 2016.
