Monuments in Hyderabad to be restored by GHMC

Hyderabad, Dec 2:Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has sanctioned Rs 6.7 crore to take up restoration works of historical monuments in Hyderabad, following the announcement of Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), KT Rama Rao to revive the historical structures to their glory.
As part of these efforts, GHMC has allotted Rs 3.5 crore for the conservation of Murgi Chowk in old city, Rs 1.5 crore for restoration of clock tower near Charminar and Rs 1.48 crore for Char Kaman.
The Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP), GHMC has taken up conservation works with a cost of Rs 1.48 crore at Char Kaman. According to GHMC officials, the restoration works were being taken up at a brisk pace.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said steps had been taken up to complete restoration works of Char Kaman, which started this August, by next March.
GHMC had sanctioned Rs 3.5 crore for restoration of Murgi Chowk, which was spread over an acre and had close to 262 shops. An underground cellar, a ground and first floor would be constructed as part of the restoration works.
