Adilabad, a household name in Telangana for quality honey

Adilabad, April 24:Erstwhile Adilabad district, regarded as temple of aboriginal tribes, is known in almost every household of Telangana for its organic honey. The production of honey gains momentum with the onset of summer.
"Erstwhile Adilabad district is the largest producer of honey. In fact, it is a home to honey prepared by honey bees. It registered output of 450 quintals non-timber forest produce (NTFP) in 2017 and the target set for this year is 500 quintals. Six centres are being operated for procuring the honey in the district," Girijan Cooperative Centre, Utnoor Divisional Manager, G Prathap Reddy told.
Traditionally, Kolam community finds livelihood by collecting various non-timber forest produce. Kolams, a vulnerable tribal group, make a living by collecting honey in the wild during summer and winter.
