TS among top States in Niti Aayog delta ranking

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, July 2:The National Institution of Transforming India (Niti) Aayog, in its first delta rankings of the aspirational districts programme, placed Telangana, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu as the top States that showed maximum progress.
In the last three to four months, these States worked hard to improve the socio-economic status of their aspirational districts, according to Niti Aayog's delta rankings released in June. In fact, the national institution specially praised Telangana's health authorities for working hard to improve pre and post natal care, and reduce infant mortality rate (IMR) by improving infant care in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. "It is heartening to note that Bhupalpally district, which was ranked 100th in the earlier baseline ranking in the field of health and nutrition, made significant improvement. It is now the fourth best district among aspirational districts in pre and post-natal facilities," the Niti Aayog report said.
The district also performed well in improving State-run healthcare facilities dedicated to improve infant's health. From a lowly 100th rank, Jayashankar Bhupalpally managed to break into the top 10 aspirational districts in India. Khammam and Asifabad districts, earlier ranked way below 100, are now at 11th and 15th place respectively, in the most improved districts in the country.
The delta rankings are based on six parameters - health, education, agriculture, water resources, basic infrastructure, skill development and financial inclusion - as a measure of progress. "Niti Aayog considers health and education as the most important parameters by giving them 60 per cent weightage points while drawing up the delta rankings. We are sure that in a few months from now, thanks to a slew of initiatives taken up in various departments, Telangana will emerge on top of best performing States in India," health officials said.
The delta rankings are entirely based on ground-level studies conducted by independent teams of Niti Aayog. In fact, the national body is collaborating with Tata Trust and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to assist its teams in the districts to enumerate the improvement in key performance indicators through household survey. Both Tata Trust and Gates Foundation are collaborating with Niti Aayog in nearly 100 aspirational districts in the country.
