Top cop is using WhatsApp to its hilt

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, June 7:Brevity does matter. And where emotionally charged speeches or notes that run into several hundred words do not work, a quick, short and personal audio clip can make an impact. That is what Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar is proving.
Kumar, earlier known and appreciated for making foolproof security arrangements for VVIP visits - including those of two US Presidents - to the city, is now showing that popular messaging service WhatsApp can be a handy tool to take the police closer to the public.
The senior cop made it a habit to release short two-minute audio clips, speaking in a clear and crisp tone, whenever there was an issue that required immediate attention. And the clips went viral.
Right from when the police was looking at ways to tackle malicious rumours on kidnapping gangs, to when tension prevailed after a couple was detained illegally by police in connection with a civil dispute, the Commissioner's audio clips managed to help police personnel reach out to the public and set things in order.
"Though there are other ways to communicate such as posters or text messages, there are limitations. They are impersonal and not impactful. These audio clips have a personal rapport," he said.
On Wednesday, he released another audio clip. The message was prompted by the shocking suicide of Jasleen Kaur Saluja, a teenager who jumped to death after failing to secure a good rank in NEET.
Kumar, in the clip, requested multi-storey building owners to lock entrances to terraces in order to prevent easy access for anyone thinking of such extreme steps. He also requested resident welfare associations to consider the suggestion and to police officials to create awareness in their jurisdictions. "Today, a daughter of Hyderabad has gone," he says in the clip, and tells youngsters that "every difficult time passes away, that every night has a sunrise to follow". "Trust yourself and have faith in God, always," he says, before signing off as 'Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad', all this, in just two minutes.
