Telangana to launch e-mobility policy in June, says Jayesh

Hyderabad, May 24:Telangana State will bring its e-mobility policy in June second week or so. The draft has already been prepared and various stakeholders have given their inputs on the issue. The policy will be fine-tuned and launched next month.
This will give a push to electronic vehicles and will address issues related to multiple stakeholders - vehicle manufacturers, users, charging stations, component makers and others, said Telangana Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
"All possible interventions will be included in the policy. Since the field is dynamic, we have not committed to any numbers like how much incentive will be given to how many members for what duration. We will be flexible with the interventions. There will be a special decision making body that will guide the implementation of the policy," he said.
"There are several people who are willing to set up charging stations in the State," said Ranjan adding that the Hyderabad Metro Rail is also working to provide charging infrastructure along the stations.
The official said a fixed amount will be set aside from the Budget an annual basis for promoting electric vehicles.
The State is keen on creating a mobility innovation ecosystem here with help from startup incubator T-Hub. Various industry players, OEMS and others are pooling in their ideas.
T-Hub has agreed to include electric mobility in its agenda. "Telangana will be a test bed for e-mobility," the official said adding that Telangana will join select few States that have worked on a separate policy for e-vehicles.
At the national level, think tank Niti Aaayog has been working to promote electric vehicles and has a set 2030 as its target for transition to electric vehicles. "This sector needs a lot of policy support. We are clear that success demonstrations will give the required push," he said.
The Phase I of FAME announced by Niti has brought about awareness about electric vehicles and Phase II of FAME, which has recently announced its guidelines, puts the onus of making charging infrastructure available on Governments. "Our civic bodies are willing to be part of this initiative," he said.
