Hyderabad, April 12:Various restoration works taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at places with historical importance in the city have gained pace with the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) taken up on a war footing.
The civic body has taken up on priority the works pertaining to conserve Char Kaman near Charminar and also important places of old city like Chudi Bazar, Murgi Chowk, Clock Tower, Zulfikar Kaman and Moazzam Jahi Market.
The CPP project, which was taken up in October 2006 at a cost of Rs 35.10 crore, has been put on priority list after MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao assumed charge and personally inspected the project. He had then directed the officials to expedite the works and complete them in the stipulated time, according to a press release.
The removal of encroachments from Madina to Pathergatti is at the last stage with all flexi banners, hoardings and unwanted publicity material removed to restore the old charm in the old city areas. The restoration of clock tower in Murgichowk at a cost of Rs 60 lakh is being taken up and officials are personally monitoring the works to complete them at the earliest, the civic body said in the release.
For overall development of Moazzam Jahi Market, works at an estimated budget of Rs 10 crore are being taken up, the GHMC said in the press release.
