Kavitha lays foundation for SRSP canal modernisation works


Nizamabad, May 16:Nizamabad MP K Kavitha laid foundation stone for SRSP Lakshmi Canal modernisation works at Mupkal mandal headquarters of Nizamabad district.
Telangana government allocated Rs 17.45 crore to complete modernisation and cement lining works of Lakshmi Canal and distributaries. This canal provides irrigation water to 50,000 acres at Balkonda, Mupkal, Mendora, Morthad Kammarapally, Velpoor mandals of Balkonda Assembly constituency in Nizamabad.
Every year, farmers face problems under SRSP project due to the poor state of Lakshmi Canal and its distributaries. The tail-end farmers have not been receiving irrigation water and their crops were being hit.
After TRS government came to power, the farmers appealed to the government for help and got a positive respomse.
Nizamabad MP Kavitha, Mission Bhagiratha Vice-Chairman Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Irrigation officials laid foundation stone to the Lakshmi Canal modernisation works at Mupkal mandal headquarters. On the occasion, Kavitha said that after completion of modernisation works, irrigation water would be provided to more crops in Nizamabad district.
