Hyderabad's Mind Space Underpass ready for launch

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, April 24:Work on the underpass at Mind Space Junction, taken up with the objective of decongesting traffic in the bustling IT Corridor of the city, has been completed.
The underpass, which happens to be the second project under the signal free traffic corridors in Greater Hyderabad, has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs.25.78 crore. According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the works have been completed in all aspects and the underpass would be opened for traffic in the next couple of days.
For the GHMC, which has already completed the underpass at Biodiversity Park Junction and opened the same for traffic, the Mind Space underpass happens to be the second successful project under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao and Mayor B. Rammohan would be inaugurating it soon, officials said.
Officials said the new underpass would ensure smooth flow of traffic in both directions between Cyber Towers and Biodiversity Park Junction.
"Studies have shown that around 14,400 vehicles pass this stretch every hour now and the number of vehicles by the year 2035 is expected to shoot up to 31,356 every hour here," an official said.
Seeking to not only find a solution for immediate traffic needs given the long vehicular jams and traffic chaos on these stretches, but also to put in place long term solutions for the expected rise in number of vehicles, four works have been taken up here. Apart from Mind Space Junction, three other multi-level/grade separators are at Biodiversity Junction, Ayyappa Society and Rajiv Gandhi statue junction with all the components costing Rs.379 crore.
Apart from this facility, the underpass at Chintalkunta Checkpost too has been completed and is ready for inauguration.
Mind Space Underpass:
* Total length: 365 m
* Closed box length: 83 m
* Length of approaches: 282 m
* Total width of underpass: 28.80 m
* Min vertical clearance: 5.50 m
* Carriageway details: 6 lane bidirectional
