Hyderabad: TMREIS eyes Guinness record

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, Sept 30:In what could provide a morale boost to the State government's efforts to provide quality education to talented children from minority communities, the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institution Society (TMREIS) is giving a shot at an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Society is planning to highlight its residential school scheme, which has seen a staggering 206 schools, enrolling about 50,000 students, being established in a span of just 18 months.
The last academic year had seen the government according permission to start 71 schools, with the move eliciting an overwhelming response from parents and students of the minority community. This year, the government had plans to open 121 schools, but with the response being phenomenal, decided to open 135 schools.
TMREIS Secretary B Shafiullah said more than 48,000 of the 52,000 sanctioned seats in these 206 schools were already filled. The remaining 4,000 seats would be filled through spot admissions.
The Society, he said, was assessing the procedure to register its entry with the Guinness Book of World Records for the provision of education facilities on such a massive scale. Enquiries by the Society had revealed that there were no other government schemes anywhere that had achieved such an accomplishment within such a short span of time, he said.
Shafiullah said that initially, recruitment of teachers to these schools was done via outsourcing. However, the government would soon release a notification through the State Public Service Commission for appointment of regular teachers in the schools.
"Last year, the schools had only up to Class VII. This year, it was extended to Class VIII and we are now planning to increase it till Class XII by next year as per the requirement," he said.
"We are providing all kind of facilities to the students, right from infrastructure to special academic and sports activities to ensure comprehensive growth of the students," he added.
