Hyderabad, July 18:Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday reiterated his request to the Centre that Kaleshwaram irrigation project be declared as a 'national project'. Harish Rao told reporters after meeting Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari that the request was placed before him.
"We met the Union Minister and requested him to take up this issue at the Central government level and also ensure that Telangana State receives financial assistance for the project. He promised to examine the issue and ensure providing any possible assistance from the Centre," Harish Rao said.
The Irrigation Minister said Gadkari had assisted enormously in the Kaleshwaram project receiving various clearances that made it possible for the State government to go ahead full speed with the project. "We thanked him for his support for the project and to Telangana State and requested him to visit the project that is designed to irrigate 37 lakh acres in the State," Harish Rao said.
The TRS delegation that met Gadkari, also included TRS Parliamentary Party leader and Lok Sabha member AP Jithender Reddy.
