Hyderabad, May 30:The Hyderabad Cybercrime police arrested a Delhi-based three-member gang for allegedly cheating job aspirants here on Tuesday. They created a fake website in the name of Telangana Agro Development Corporation to cheat unemployed youth.
The arrested persons were identified as Vikas Kumar (30), a supervisor with I Tech Solutions in New Delhi; Subash (46), an operator; and Vikas Khandelwal (23), a computer operator in the same firm. Another accused, Sachin Kumar, the proprietor of the firm; is at large.
P Madhusudana, the manager of TS Agros in Ameerpet, lodged a complaint stating that unidentified persons floated a fake website - http://telangana.gred.co.in/ - in the name of Telangana Agro Development Corporation, calling for applications to various posts. Based on his complaint, a cheating case was booked and probed.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the gang released a job notification for different categories earlier this month. The posts included those of project manager, marketing officer, field officer, computer operator and lab attender, among others. "Unemployed youth in the State, who were unaware of its antecedents, applied for jobs on the website and each of them paid Rs 98. After applying, they received a call letter from I Tech Solutions through post. While receiving the letter, they had to pay Rs 499 for the application or else their application would be rejected," Kumar said. Police said preliminary investigation revealed that about 20,000 job aspirants from Telangana were cheated in this manner, with about Rs 20 lakh being collected from them. The scam is suspected to be of around Rs 3 crore. "The suspects also published fake notifications for appointments in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in similar fashion last year and till this April," the Commissioner said. Police also found that the gang planned to set up a multi-level marketing firm, Vision 700, where people would be enrolled as members after paying Rs 700 each with a commission of Rs 200 for adding a new member.
