Construction activity picks pace in Hyderabad

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, April 7:In a clear sign of real estate gaining pace in the city, the number of building permissions issued by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for the year 2017-18 has almost doubled compared to previous year.
As against 8,704 building permissions issued during 2016-17 by the GHMC town planning wing, the permissions for the year 2017-18 stood at 15,777, which is a record of sorts for the civic body.
Earlier, the maximum number of building permissions issued were 10,025 in 2013-14 and during the last financial year, the building permissions crossed the 15,000 mark, generating Rs.647 crore for the municipal corporation.
In addition to this, the GHMC generated Rs.167.04 crore through the disposal of Layout Regularisation (LR) applications during the financial year 2017-18.
This came as no surprise has Hyderabad has topped the global charts in the JLL's City Momentum Index (CMI) in the Short-Term Momentum rankings category with Bangalore taking the second spot.
This apart, Hyderabad has been ranked as the top Indian city in the Quality of Living ranking for the third year in a row in Mercer's Quality of Rankings 2017. Surveys too had earlier pointed out at construction activity picking up in the city.
Among the 15,777 buildings permissions issued last financial year, 14,526 were for individual buildings, 1,005 for residential apartments and 99 for high rise commercial projects.
The increase in the number of building permissions issued relatively indicates the increase in construction activity and paving way for the development of Hyderabad as a Global City, said a senior official.
To expedite the building plan approval and to make things convenient for landowners, the municipal corporation had introduced online building plans approval system. This also played a crucial role in the disposal of applications and increase in the trust and confidence of citizens, he said.
More importantly, the State government has issued orders slashing the building plan approval duration from 30 days to 21 days. This increased accountability among officials, resulting in quick delivery of services, the official added.
