Co-op election authority jailed

Hyderabad, Mar 10:A two-judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad, comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J Uma Devi, on Friday sentenced G Srinivas Rao, Additional Registrar for Cooperation, State Cooperative Election Authority, Hyderabad, to two months imprisonment. The bench was dealing with a contempt petition filed by Sadula Narasaiah and Velugu Saidu of Nalgonda complaining of wilful disobedience of the orders of the court by the contemnor. The Bench had, in its order on September 7, 2017, directed the State Cooperative Society of Telangana to conduct elections to the vacancies in pending district societies within six months from the date of the order. The special government pleader sought an extension by two months but no initiation was taken towards conducting the elections. The court stated that no further indulgence will be granted disposed of the petition.
Justice M S Ramachandra Rao of High Court granted two weeks to GHMC in a contempt case to report compliance. The judge was dealing with a contempt petition filed by C Vijayalakshmi complaining of wilful disobedience of the orders of the court by the contemnor. Earlier the court had directed GHMC officials to acquire the property of the petitioner and pay compensation. The petitioner contended that no compensation was paid to her.
