CM KCR for maintaining adequate storage in SRSP

Hyderabad, Jan 16:Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said that the implementation of Mission Bhagiratha aimed at giving piped water to every household in the State was largely dependent on the Sriramsagar and steps should be taken to maintain adequate storage of water in the project all the year round.
He had a review at Pragati Bhavan on the work progress on different projects being implemented in a mission mode by the State Government. He said the irrigation projects were being constructed to find a permanent solution to the drinking water and irrigation needs of the state. He wanted equal attention to be paid to construction of check dams and canals for filling up of tanks.
Construction of new barrages being taken up as part of the Kaleshwaram integrated project will help provide live storage spread over long stretches in Godavari and other streams in the basin .The Upper Manair will not be dried up once the projects in progress are completed. It would facilitate formation of a live stream from Upper Manair to Lower Manair. Kakatiya canal also will have similar benefit.
The southern and northern parts of Karimnagar district would be a major beneficiary of the enhanced storage facilities in dams and streams. This would in turn benefit the Haritha Haram programme aimed at reviving the green cover across the state. He said once the Singur project received adequate inflows, it would support the needs in the command area for five years.
New projects such as Mallannasagar and Kondapochamma reservoir also would be benefited from it , he added.
He wanted all the Barrages in construction should be completed in a time bound manner. The open canal works are were from Mid Manair to Anantagiri and the remaining tunnel works should be completed on fast track.
