Azharuddin keen to contest LS polls from Secunderabad

Vishwas News

Hyderabad, July 16:Former India cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin appears all set to bat for the party in Telangana State in the next Lok Sabha elections. Asked if Azharuddin's wishing to contest from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat as reported by agencies on Sunday, a senior Congress leader from the State said it was previously suggested to Azharuddin that he should ideally contest from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.
"However, the other options suggested to him include Zaheerabad and Malkajgiri constituencies but we are aware that he is keen to contest from Secunderabad. The Congress party in Telangana is fully with him in his wish to contest from his home State. However, the final choice of a constituency will be with the party high command," the senior party leader said.
Azharuddin in an interview to the agencies on Sunday had expressed his desire to contest from Secunderabad. He also said he had been working hard in the constituency and the feedback for his candidacy was promising with several people asking him to contest from Secunderabad.
It may be recalled that last year in October, Azharuddin had complained at the Rajiv Sadbhavana Yatra that Telangana Congress, despite him being from the State, had ignored him and never sought his services for the party. Following this, the State Congress leaders had immediately said he was welcome to contest from Telangana. The former India cricket captain had previously contested and won from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in 2009 but in the 2014 elections, was asked to contest from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan where he lost.
